Firm up

Today Christine and I "firmed up" on the house. Meaning we have finalized structural changes and given them our downpayment. We now have two weeks to finish choosing our tiles, carpet etc. Shortly after that they will give us a closing date for the house. Looks like April at this point.

IBM Interview

Had an interview with IBM this morning. It was raining out. I think it went well. He told me about the business and I told him about myself and my experience. Cross your fingers for me!

Mikey can jump

The vet gave a kit to my parents that included this toy that is comprised of a stick with a long strip of cloth attached to the end. Mikey cannot stop himself from chasing it. He's like 3 feet off the ground in this picture.

Wonderland.

We left for Toronto at around 3:30 on Friday the ninth. Our plan was to get down there Friday night, sleep, get up early Saturday and then spend the day in Wonderland. I love rollercoasters like you wouldn't believe. Our group was comprised of my Mom, Dad, my brother Chris, Christine, Remi and myself. Remi is a friend to my parents and Christine. I'm still getting to know the guy. Anyways, Remi was kind enough to provide the drive down for Christine and I. We just had to pay gas. Let me tell you. I hate not being the driver.

On the way in to the hotel we passed the ATI Toronto headquarters and the geek in me couldn't resist taking a photo. It happens to be on the same street as the hotel we stayed in. It was called Staybridge Suites. I think it's a horrible name but the rooms were okay. They server their function well. Unfortunately my dad and I were tandem snoring the first night and it drove Remi mad. Sorry Remi.

The rooms came with a complimentary breakfast buffet. It was pretty good. I would venture to call it a continental breakfast with eggs and bacon.

Saturday.

It's important to note that Christine is afraid of heights and yet went on the Top Gun ride anyways. She is seen here with my Dad looking pretty calm on the outside... I'm sure inside she hated me for making her go on the ride only to not sit with her. I'm a jerk I know. My mom and I wanted to be in the first car so we ended up waiting a while longer to get on the ride.

After about eight hours of theme parking we decide to call it quits. We were all tired of the lines. We did have the energy for one last ride on the Top Gun coaster. Great ride, but like most rides it needs to be about twice as long and three times as high.

That night Christine, Remi and I went for a swim and then went to bed. I was pretty damned tired.

I like Toronto and it's surrounding areas. They seem to be developing a lot of the land and the are we were in seemed to be festooned with new malls and housing developments. We weren't really in Toronto, we were just outside. We were close enough for me to just call it Toronto.

On the way back home Christine asked me to take a photo of the big apple. It's a landmark that I have seen every time I went camping when I was growing up. I guess I'm just used to seeing it so I was a little reluctant to snap the shot. In hindsight it is pretty significant. Anyone doing the trip from Ottawa to Toronto has seen this giant apple at least once. I think it's significant because it's the only memorable landmark between the two capitals. Unless you want to count the urine soaked bathrooms in the pit stops along the highway.

In Toronto

Well, it's the first night of our stay in Toronto. I'm just exploring the hotel and found this computer we can use for "Business". Thought I would post something. Tomorrow we get up super early and head to Wonderland for ten hours of rollercoasters. I love rollercoasters.

Mortgage approved!

Christine and I got final approval today for the mortgage. So next week we have to "firm up" with the builder. This is where we make a final decision on things that will affect the structure of the house.

Where extras are concerned we have decided on getting the end unit, upgraded ensuite bathroom and a 3 piece rough-in for a bathroom we might want in the basement in the future. As it is the house has three bathrooms already so we decided that a fourth can wait. For cosmetic upgrades we are only getting a mirrored closet in the "foyer" and air conditioning.

We decided that all the other little things can be done by us as we go along. Stuff like upgrading cabinet handles, light switches and the light fixtures in the kitchen. I also want to put crown molding on the main floor and in the master bedroom. I think it adds a nice look. We will be doing ceramic tiles and a hard wood florr on the main floor later on. For now it's fancy vinyl and carpet.

Check out the house we are getting. It's called the
Barcelona

Labour day

Christine, Tina, Dom and I hung out today. It was nice. I don't get to see Dom and Tina very much lately. Hopefully that will change in the not too distant future.

We went for brunch at Eggspectations. Very cheesy name but the food was good and it was reasonably priced. I had this thing that was made up of a bagel that was cut in half and then put on the grill. They then break an egg in to the middle and fry it up.
They top it off with bacon and melt cheese on it. I made a comment on how it was like the Good Morning burger from the Simpsons... mmmm... rich creamery butter... Anyways. I couldn't finish it. There was just too much. After that we wandered around downtown for a while. Window shopping wears me out usually but it was a nice day out and I was in good company.

We then went and saw The 40 year old Virgin. Christine and I had already seen it... but it was funny enough to go see again. If you haven't seen it yet you are stupid or mentally deficient in some way. Go now and you might redeem yourself. That being said I must go see Wedding Crashers. I have been told that not seeing that movie makes me mentally deficient.

Here's another photo I took today but didn't have enought story to work it in to this post.

I have to go to work in three and a half hours and I can't sleep!!! Jaysus! These erratic start times are really fucking me up! Just thought you all should know this. Tomorrow is going to be a caffeine fueled zombie fest... How can they possibly expect me to be productive?!? Assholes...
