House Birthday warming surprise party!?

So I went and played squash on Saturday with Curtis. When I came home our house was PACKED with family and friends. It was quite surprising to see so many people in our house looking at me when I walked in. It was awesome. It was a combination of a late housewarming for both sides of my family and surprise party for my thirtieth birthday. If it wasn't apparent I was a little bewildered. Yeah... there were some cars in the driveway but the number was extremely disproportionate to the number of people inside to greet me.

Thank you all for coming! It was really great to see you all and Christine and I appreciate all your generous gifts! Above you can see what I purchased with the Home Depot gift cards you all gave us... I needed power tools so I didn't waste any time going to pick them up! We are also going to get some new light fixtures for the bathrooms so we can use more efficient lighting and if there is anything left after that some pegboards for the garage and my workshop in the basement.

We look forward to many BBQs now that our lawn is usable!

More tilt-shifting!

The before photo.

This is after tilt-shifting... if that wasn't obvious... I had to edit out the crane because the blur effect wouldn't have been right for the depth of field that this effect simulates.

Montreal's Old Port

For my birthday weekend Christine decided to take me on a trip to the Old Port section in Montreal. I couldn't have picked a better weekend to be born on. It was our first taste of summer and it was great to be able to wander around without a coat.

We stayed here. Auberge du Vieux Port. Very nice.

Christine and I wandered around for a few hours on the pier and the surrounding area. A lot of stuff to see. A lot of history.

Also, a lot of progress and the ever pressing need to fit more rich people in to a smaller area.

No matter how packed in the rich folk are there's still a little room for the homeless...

With political messages.

After an afternoon of exploring we had an early dinner and got ready for the main even of the trip. Cirque du Soleil's Kooza show.

Below is the only photo I have from inside unfotunately. They don't allow photography while inside so I snapped this one with my cell phone.

I need a cell phone with a higher resolution camera in it.

The show was done around eleven so we decided to go get a bite to eat.

And then go to bed.

Saturday we went to the Biodome!

Now I'm thirty years old.

Thanks for the great weekend Christine! I love you with all my heart!

Our Puppy!

We went and picked our puppy out tonight. She is a purebred lab. Her mom is a Chocolate lab and her father a black lab. We get to take her home May nineteenth! I can't wait! It was hard to pick but this little lady fell asleep in my arms and then did the same after I gave her to Christine.

This is the mom.

Here is the dad. He's a little bear of a dog.

Jerk filled bad day. Grumble.

Yesterday I was having a miserable day. I felt like shit mentally.

Then Sears called and told me that my central Vac was ready for pickup. So I went on my lunch break to get it. Picked up Christine from her work on the way because she actually knew where the Sears pick up was located. We were stopped at an intersection waiting to turn on to Nicholas. The car in the photo above was in front of me at the intersection. Then a bus on Nicholas turned left but couldn't fit past us due to the fact that another bus was parked on the road. However the bus kept edging forward and coming closer and closer to this person's car. So they throw it in reverse and back right in to me. They backed right in to me despite the fact that I was leaning on my horn for at least twenty seconds... then after having hit me they stayed there ON my front bumper for what seemed like another twenty seconds while I continued to lean on the horn. The funny part is that even after the bus essentially forced this person to back up the bus still couldn't get past me because there was not enough space between me and the parked bus on the side of the road.

Here comes the bad part. This person in the car above didn't pull over or stop after hitting me. I had to chase them down the road to get this photo. They were going on the highway so I didn't follow them any further. I had my photo and I was just going to file a hit and run report with the police later. I had things to do and if the ass was going to make me chase them they could deal with the consequences.

To this point I hadn't had a chance to look at the damage so I just drove to the Sears pickup center and had a look. Zero damage. Not even cracked paint on the bumper. So I'm happy about that. I'm just not happy that this prick will get away with hitting me and then running away. I don't want to call the police because it would be a waste of my time and theirs. "Hey police person. I was hit by a car and they drove away. There's no damage to my car. Can you throw them in jail or fine them? Take my word for it. They hit me and I have a witness that loves me very much". So if you know this person. Tell them I think their and asshole.

I took solace in the fact that I would get to play handyman when I got home and install our central vac.

But the power went out.

Until two in the morning.

I started installing it this morning before work... I actually lost take of time and ended up being fifteen minutes late for work. My boss understood. But still berated me for my tardiness. I am taking photos of the installation process to show you guys like I usually do when I build or assemble stuff. I'll post the step by step tomorrow for you guys while I'm working. On good Friday.

Rice wraps

Our first ever attempt at making rice wraps. They contain shrimp, mint leaves, carrots, sprouts, lettuce and rice noodles all wrapped up in rice paper. Very easy to make (not easy to make well) and not bad for your health. The dipping sauce is made of hoisin sauce with crunchy peanut butter mixed in. Yum. The rice paper wrapping feels like penis skin. I don't know what that says about me... The ones on the right are mine. Notice how HUGE they are? Yeah. Penises.
